ประวัติความเป็นมา
บัณฑิตวิทยาลัย มหาวิทยาลัยมหาสารคาม มีพัฒนาการมาอย่างต่อเนื่องยาวนานกว่า 4 ทศวรรษ จากจุดเริ่มต้นเมื่อครั้งยังสังกัดมหาวิทยาลัยศรีนครินทรวิโรฒ จนพัฒนามาเป็นหน่วยงานระดับคณะที่มีบทบาทสำคัญในการกำกับมาตรฐานบัณฑิตศึกษาของมหาวิทยาลัย
For over four decades, the Graduate School of Mahasarakham University has continually evolved — from its origin under Srinakharinwirot University to a fully independent faculty-level organization responsible for overseeing graduate studies standards.

Establishment of Graduate School
บัณฑิตวิทยาลัยเริ่มก่อตั้งขึ้น เมื่อครั้งยังเป็น มหาวิทยาลัยศรีนครินทรวิโรฒ วิทยาเขตมหาสารคาม นับเป็นจุดเริ่มต้นของการจัดการศึกษาระดับบัณฑิตศึกษาในภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือ
Graduate School was established under the name of Srinakharinwirot University, Mahasarakham Campus — marking the beginning of graduate education in the Northeastern region of Thailand.

แยกตัวเป็นมหาวิทยาลัยมหาสารคาม
Separation to Mahasarakham University
เมื่อวันที่ 8 ธันวาคม 2537 มหาวิทยาลัยมหาสารคามแยกตัวเป็นเอกเทศ บัณฑิตวิทยาลัยจึงเปลี่ยนแปลงเป็น "งานบริหารบัณฑิตศึกษา" สังกัดกองบริการการศึกษา ฝ่ายวิชาการ
On 8th December 1994, the university was separated from Srinakharinwirot University. Graduate School was reorganized as the "Graduation Management Section" under the Education Service Division.

จัดตั้งสำนักงานบัณฑิตศึกษา
Office of Graduate School
งานบริหารบัณฑิตศึกษาแยกออกจากฝ่ายวิชาการ จัดตั้งเป็น "สำนักงานบัณฑิตศึกษา" ภายใต้การบริหารงานของรองอธิการบดีฝ่ายบัณฑิตศึกษา ถือเป็นการยกระดับสถานะขึ้นอีกขั้น
The section was separated from the Academic department and upgraded to the "Office of Graduate School" under the supervision of the Vice President of Graduate Studies Division.
พ.ศ. 2546 · 2003
จัดตั้ง "บัณฑิตวิทยาลัย" ระดับคณะ
Faculty of Graduate Studies
เมื่อวันที่ 17 กรกฎาคม 2546 สภามหาวิทยาลัยอนุมัติให้จัดตั้ง "บัณฑิตวิทยาลัย" เป็นหน่วยงานระดับคณะ มีรูปแบบการบริหารงานนอกระบบราชการ ภายใต้การบริหารงานของคณบดีบัณฑิตวิทยาลัย มีภารกิจในการประสานงาน สนับสนุน กำกับและควบคุมมาตรฐานการศึกษาระดับบัณฑิตศึกษา
On 17th July 2003, the University Council approved upgrading to the "Faculty of Graduate Studies" — a faculty-level organization with independent management, responsible for coordination, quality control, and standards oversight of all graduate programs.

เปลี่ยนชื่อเป็น "Graduate School"
Renamed to Graduate School
เมื่อวันที่ 30 สิงหาคม 2556 สภามหาวิทยาลัยอนุมัติและประกาศระเบียบใหม่เกี่ยวกับการบริหารจัดการบัณฑิตศึกษา พร้อมทั้งเปลี่ยนชื่อเป็น "บัณฑิตวิทยาลัย" (Graduate School) ซึ่งใช้มาจนถึงปัจจุบัน
On 30th August 2013, the University Council published a new regulation regarding graduate studies management and officially renamed the organization to "Graduate School" — the name it carries to this day.

บัณฑิตวิทยาลัยมีภารกิจในการบริหารและจัดการการศึกษาระดับบัณฑิตศึกษา ในบทบาทของการเป็นผู้ประสานงานและสนับสนุนการจัดการศึกษา กำกับและควบคุมมาตรฐานการศึกษาระดับบัณฑิตศึกษา และบริหารการจัดการหลักสูตรของคณะ และหลักสูตรสาขาวิชาร่วมให้มีประสิทธิภาพและประสิทธิผล
The Graduate School has a mission of graduate studies management and development — cooperation and support of all activities regarding graduate program arrangement, education standard control, course disciplines and co-course disciplines enhancement to ensure high quality and efficiency of graduate studies.
